My family and I went to Heidelberg University Hospital as soon as my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer because we heard of their prof. Buchler and their state of the art facilities.
It is a shame to say that the experience was one of the worst. We never saw Prof. Buchler, just someone from his team who consulted us on our next moves. Then we never saw the same doctor twice, which made it difficult to follow up on their advice. We had 3 different meetings before my father did his biopsy surgery and each time they made us wait, with no information why we are waiting, for a minimum of 4 hours. The nurses and doctors were very rude and looked inconvenienced by any questions we had. The cleanliness and hygiene level was worse than public hospitals back home and they made us pay a ridiculous amount of money even though they never gave us a private room as they promised. While my father was in pain one evening we asked the assistant doctor when we can talk to the doctor. He said "whenever he is done". We said "can you please give us an approximation e.g. between 7pm and 11pm" he says "oh in that case, between 7pm and 7 am". How professional is that? We later asked for the samples of the biopsy to send them to where we decided to go for treatment and they made it so difficult that even the Fedex people called us apologizing for the delay because "the person they were dealing with was rude and unhelpful". Yes America only has private care but at least when you are paying money they treat you like a human being and give you real answers. Although we were very upset we couldn't do curative surgery for my father, after hearing the horror stories of the experiences of the people in the rooms near us, we were slightly relieved we wouldn't have to go through that in this horrible place they call a hospital.
It is a shame to see that a new batch of doctors will graduate from this university every year believing that it is normal for doctors to be inhuman, rude and lack hygiene.

If you can get treated here for Cancer I strongly recommend it. The treatments are very advanced and the patient care is excellent. I was very grateful that my father ended up in such professional hands.

I was seen in this hospital while on vacation in Deutschland for chest pain. I thought the medical staff was competent and they diagnosed me with a problem in my esophagus---and ruled out and heart condition. The price I paid was very low compared to what my insurance would have been charged back home in Baltimore, Maryland- USA.
