I went for out-patient surgery. The hospital was filthy and the equipment was out-dated! The anesthesiologist, Dr. Mau was rude and would not listen to patients when they asked questions and CONTINUALLY... more spoke over them - yes, it is possible to request a difference anesthesiologist if you do not feel comfortable-it is one of the few rights patients still have!
Once in the operating room and about to start the procedure, it was discovered that the EKG machine was NOT working! I stayed on the operating table as a number of people, including “maintenance” paraded in and out trying to fix this vital piece of equipment - finally it needed to be replaced! WOW! That was not what I needed to watch just before being placed under general anesthesia!
DIFFICULT SURGERY... I END UP GETTING ADMITTED - American Horror Story!
The Bathroom was filthy, the room was dirty, walls had holes, scrapes, NOISY!!
The night nurses were great! Organized, on time with meds, came when the “call” button was pushed, very kind and helpful.
The day nurses were EVIL! My nurse refused to shut my door, shouted down the hall to other nurses, told me about other patients and complained about how bad her feet hurt while sitting on my bed, told me about how she hated her job and was getting into Real Estate, and rarely brought me my pain medicine on time! I could NEVER get ahead of the pain! They never once brought me a menu, so I had to literally call down to the kitchen and beg for food! They brought me what they had left! At one point, my call button was on over 45 minutes and my medication was way overdue; the nursing assistant - ran in, sighed in disgust and said, “you’ve got to stop pushing that button!” She left and NEVER got the nurse! I have never been treated so NEGLIGENTLY after having a surgery! I trusted these people to help me. This hospital got paid a lot of money to take care of me too... Even if the Health Department came in and cleaned them up, I think they could do little to clean up the attitude the staff has toward the patients.
PLEASE, do yourself a favor and go to any one of the many other hospitals and surgery centers in the close area that have newer, cleaner equipment with happier staff members; it will help you in your healing!
I came to visit my brother who was in ICU and the hospital smelled like urine. I am amazed a hospital can stay running with the lack of cleanliness I saw. The staff seamed kind and happy, but I would never... more want to have to be a patient there. My brother checked himself out the next day as the medical treatment was causing his symptoms to get worse. He is now in a better hospital. I get that the building is old, but that does not mean that it has to smell like the dirtiest convalescent home.
