While i have had a positive experiences at BCH, last week when i showed up for a scheduled Ultrasound i was asked to pay $860 at check in. Ive had several ultrasounds in the last few... more years and ive never had to pay a dime, it is not subject to my deductible because BCH is in network. I was unsure of what to do so i called my insurance company, they could not tell me for sure what was going on and asked for a tax ID for the provider. The check in clerk was not able to help with this, and told me to call financial services at BCH, i did so - 3 times in an hour and nobody picked up, and nobody returned my call when i left a message. Its now been 3 days since. Then i was told to call patient services, nobody picked up there either. I ended up going home and not getting my US because i didnt want to get stuck with a bill. I found the clerks at check in to be very ill -informed. Please dont ask people to pay $860 at check in when youre not sure of coverage - its a very large amount of money to then have to try to get refunded. Also, since it was 1 pm i was expecting to get an answer from one of the #s they asked me to call and its as if everyone over there took a day off. i wasted 2 hours of my day and now have to wait one month to reschedule my US. VERY annoyed at BCH. Your customer service is very poor. You should not be asking people to pay at check in for procedures that are covered (BTW this isnt the firs titme that happened to me here at BCH)
what can i say about the doctors -its hit or miss. My new pediatrician (wont mention names) spent all of 5 minutes with my daughter when meeting her for the first time and doing a yearly check up. It felt very rushed - i feel like all his answers to my questions were straight out of a book with zero holistic approach . My ob-gyn (Dr Heather bright hoffmyer) is awesome, she delivered my second baby but she no longer delivers there so thats that . All of my imaging appointments go smoothly, i cannot say anything about the techs that do that service, they are always great. Just need to improve your billing/financial issues!!! i am now hesitant about going back for my US and thinking of going to a different facility
In March of 2014 I was admitted to the Emergency Room at Boulder Community Health after a car accident. I want to make this perfectly clear, the medical attention I received was great. I was diagnosed... more and released the same evening. Unfortunately, that's where the nightmare starts. About one month ago my family and I started receiving hostile phone calls and letters from a collection agency. A crippling blow considering my wife and I are currently in the process of trying to refinance our home. Anyway, after doing my due diligence I am told by BCH they did in fact turn me in to a collection agency -- an action taken as a result of my not having insurance during the time of the accident, followed by unsuccessful attempts to contact me through my car insurance company. Huh? First of all, I had insurance during that time (a fact I can confirm through Blue Cross Blue Shield). There's no way on God's green earth I would have walked out of that place without providing the hospital with that information as well as multiple ways to get a hold of myself and my family. As for proper follow up? Exactly 1 letter (must have looked like junk and been disregarded) and alleged calls to a disconnected number over the course of four years. Completely unacceptable. Common sense would lead any reasonable person to conclude that my billing was completely botched, which is fine. Accidents happen. My true disappointment is being told by BCH that too much time has passed and I have no recourse other than to deal with the bill collectors. That has enraged me enough to do something I almost never do, share my story with others as a warning. I will be reaching out to the collection agency to settle my debt, something I embrace as part of being accountable. BCH, you have some major, major institutional and procedural issues to address if you also feel like being accountable at some point yourselves.
