Los Alamos Medical Center is a 47-bed acute-care facility, the major health care institution and the only hospital in the community. Its medical staff of 55 active, and another 40 consulting physicians,... more bring to the community a level of sophisticated medical technology and technique not common to “small community hospitals.” Best known for its high-touch care, those it has served in Northern New Mexico for nearly 40 years consider the hospital a regional medical center.
Mind boggling prices for routine tests. I was told three common blood-draw labs would cost almost $400. It's a shame—they're co-located with Medical Associates of Northern New Mexico, which I've had... more great experiences with, but LAMC is so hugely overpriced that I don't even use them anymore. I'd strongly recommend Tri Core, on Canyon Rd, for faster services and much better prices.
Poor treatment of minority women. A friend of mine was seen at this hospital in 2012. Rather than investigate her complaints, the hospital staff began gossiping and spread unfounded rumors about "drug... more abuse" putting her engineering career at risk and preventing any real investigation and treatment from taking place for years. A second friend of mine was also harmed by this hospital as they chose to airlift her to southern New Mexico for an issue that shouldn't /didn't require an air evacuation and was non life threatening. This airlift resulted in an unnecessary $60k bill as the insurance company even felt it unnecessary. Go to Santa Fe.
Rate of readmission after discharge from hospital (hospital-wide)
Rate - 16.7% (0.7% above the national rate)
