Maine Medical Center is the state’s premier referral hospital, offering services not available elsewhere, and also serves as a community hospital for Greater Portland. MMC was rated the fourth safest... more hospital in the U.S. and our nursing staff was recently rated in the top 6 percent in the world for nursing excellence.
Not sure where to start. Triage nurses - rude, cold, and dismissive. Waiting can take hours and hours. At one point a registration rep told a bunch of us in the waiting room that although we're in pain,... more we're at least lucky to not be dying like the patients coming in via ambulance are. That seemed both harsh and unnecessary. I went in with what I thought was kidney stone pain; they did an ultrasound, didn't tell me the results and just discharged me. It was only 3 months later that I found out the results accidentally from an ultrasound tech who was reviewing my past ultrasound(s). Now I have to have gallbladder surgery and could have saved myself from months of pain if only Maine Med told me that they found gallstones (rather than kidney stones) on my ultrasound. Horrible facility. Won't be back.
This is by far the best hospital I've been to in all of Maine. Don't waste your time going to any other hospital in Maine. The staff here is most excellent. I'm in ER right now and there on top of it.... more Extremely compassionate.
This hospital failed to diagnose a genetic condition for over 5 years of appointments. They said I was med seeking when I had a genetic condition causing me to dislocate in virtually every part of my body.... more This is the worst hospital I have ever been to. I wish I could have sued the doctors for this. They literally put me outside screaming in a wheelchair after a severe dislocation. I went to Mercy hospital and I was diagnosed in 1 day. Remember this is a "Teaching" hospital most of the "DR's" are only students and what they don't know is just about everything except for putting a split on a broken leg. Don't risk your health and safety going here. I suffered for years because their negligence.
