We went into the ER here because my mom had previously visited for a broken collarbone and had a fast and pleasant experience. She was visiting out of town and had just switched insurance plans and didn't... more have any of her info. This did not affect the treatment she received in any negative way. My husband and I recently brought my daughter into the ER for an infection. And, the 20 hour visit was like night and day difference. The night shift was awesome, things were rolling along, the staff was friendly, organized and seemed to be operating and communicating very efficiently. I even told them so! Not so once the day crew arrived. There was a lot of waiting, with less communication. After the first 3 hours, we were told she would be admitted, but wound up spending 20 hours in the ER, because a room wasn't available. In the end, we left with out needed and prescribed pain meds, due to disorganization and well, frankly IDK. I was told the best option to resolve this was for me to drive the next day 80 mile round trip to pick up a handwritten RX. I find it absolutely absurd and unacceptable level of care and professionalism. It is frustrating that I should have to spend my time and gas the day after my daughter gets out of the hospital to remedy the staffs' oversight. What started off as a very pleasing visit ended the exact opposite. I'm sure I will be going to Shands (even though it's farther) the next time my family needs to visit the hospital. Oh, and we could smell something, a cross between electrical fire and fuel, which we were told was helicopter exhaust presumably coming thru the A/C system.
Mixed feelings about this place, possibly the care you get varies on time of day and the staff you get. I’ve personally had no problems but relations and friends have had. ER waiting time is short, but... more once in the Sacred inner sanctum it’s a long wait to see a doc, this has never varied. Once in a room (normally shared) you are checked frequently with care and obvious concern for your care, this hasn’t always been the case, vast improvement recently.
