This is a good hospital with good doctors. They have quite a good number of specialized departments and doctors. Children and Surgery are the two best department. New born baby department (for the name)... more is really good. Mothers deserve to have such nice environment. Most of the time we are at the ER/ Children department. Children has a new thing- free food by Roland McDonald's. Don't be shy to use this service. It was indeed a needed service.
Only problem is, ER. It's crazy. Unless you are dying is better not go emergency. Get ready for 4 to 5 hours easily for anything or nothing. Yes sometimes ER moves around based on the urgency at that time. Hallway is common area when they have higher priority patients. Sometimes just the discharge papers takes an hour. ER has Valet parking.
Their Children ER, on the other hand, is much better. They have good caring doctors, nurses and staff in this department. ER has the valet parking option. You will need to validate your ticket from the ER desk. Monthly parking ticket system is also available. They have extended their parking area. It’s quite huge now. One of the major problem is at 8am and 5pm this area has huge traffic.
Fast ER check in but the wait to actual diagnosis and treatment is over 4 hours! ER and hospital pretty dirty and run down in areas! Encountered some uncaring and clearly overwhelmed staff mixed with some... more amazing professional ones! The cardio unit on 5th floor is the best! You have to take the good with the bad at Stony Brook!
Rate of readmission after discharge from hospital (hospital-wide)
