I was tackled and tased and put in restraints as I tried to leave. it was forcefully painful and I cried. I have epilepsy. this happens to me all the time. they shoved me in restraints. don't they understand... more I am a person too? they can treat me like garage like this!
Yesterday, I was transported to University of Colorado Health in Aurora, CO. I am restricted to a wheelchair because I cannot walk. I shared my medical history with paramedics, especially the recent surgery... more I had on my lower leg and ankle. The cast was more than obvious and my inability to walk. I requested care and did not have a preference of facility. In hindsight, one of the paramedics sarcastically stated this location while the other laughed. Upon arrival, the worst experiences unfolded.
I suffered incontinence and had to relieve myself right away upon entry and was stopped by a restroom. I opened the door and asked for my wheelchair. I already told the medics to bring my things. They procrastinated and stated it would only be a moment. In the meantime, I am balancing on one leg; about to fall in front of staff, and some guy in burgundy scrubs asked if I wanted to lean on him. I refused because I saw an office chair and begged a lady at the Nurse's station to bring it to me. She looked at me as if I was out of the twilight zone and did not. So I hopped over before I crashed.
At least 10 minutes passed and staff ushered me into an ER room. All while I am asking about my wheelchair and other belongings. Finally , someone says they are searching your things for lighters, knives, etc. My response was as if it was safe to lie to someone who cannot walk; refuse to deliver a wheelchair, and I demanded my things to leave the hospital. Staff refused to let me leave and tried blocking me. I made it to the door, rather gateway to hellcare, and the guards were having a good time tossing snacks, makeup, yet no weapons. Again I asked for my things and reached for my purse, which got all attention, and the white shirt jerked it back and told me I could not have my things. The other blue shirt kept searching. I am repeatedly stating I am out of here and give me my stuff. A voice of reason states, "She can leave if she wants and we cannot make her stay". Obviously right? No, the white shirt put his finger in my face, yelled, and ignored me once again until I emphasized the ignorance, lack of customer service, and MY refusal of service/care. Well, they labelled me a trespasser and wheeled me out by force in THEIR chair because none of the geniuses thought to give me mine. Campus cops came and I wanted to press charges of assault, but of course they could not find fault from their colleagues. I posed the best retort: If I had shown up misbehaving like them; pointing fingers, and rushed one of more of the staff/guards out inciting fear or disorderly conduct, would I had not been charged?
