I went to the ER in early January 2016 for severe pain in abdomen, where I waited for over 7 hours to be seen. When they finally called me back they gave me fluids, did a couple things, and sent me home... more still in tremendous pain. Next day comes and the pain wasn't getting better, I hadn't been able to keep much down at all, and only have one kidney. So I ended up in the ER again that night, and waited around 10 hours to be seen. They told me, "well we can't find anything wrong, but we will admit you". I was kept in the hospital for 8 days with them running some tests, but they never found anything. So I was discharged still in tremendous pain. The end of the month came, and I couldn't get off the floor I was in so much pain. I was transported by ambulance to the ER. On the way the paramedics had to give me the strongest pain medicine to knock me out. I arrive and all the doctor did was give me some morphine, and said I needed to make a appointment with a nerve doctor, and told me to go home. Next day I knew something was not good at all. From the time the pain started, 2 1/2 weeks, I had lost 23 pounds, which KU knew about and I couldn't move and still was in writhing pain. My parents ended up taking me to St.Lukes East this time, and thank goodness we went there! They admitted me, and the surgeon came in and said it was a good chance it was my appendix, and he thought it would be best to go in and do surgery. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be here! I had chronic appendicitis that turned into acute appendicitis and was getting ready to rupture. I also had Meckels Diverticulum, and that was beginning to tear. He said one would have been a tough recovery, but with both getting ready to burst he said I wouldn't had made it. He said if I hadn't came in within the next 24-48 hours it would have been to late. I'm so thankful for my surgeon, and St. Luke's. I'm asking KU to realize some things don't show up in scans, but please listen to the patient and look at them. I was told many times they knew something was wrong, but just couldn't find anything. Maybe they should have thought of going in and checking.
I love the way that they treat patience they work as a team and overall the best hospital I've ever had the experience to work with I would recommend it to anybody's family that is critically ill or any... more kind of illness
