University of Washington Medical Center is one of the nation's leading academic medical centers, which provides highly specialized medical care in areas such as cardiology, high-risk pregnancy and neonatal... more intensive care, oncology, orthopedics and organ transplantation.
Coming here is a mixed bag. Sometimes I have a great experience but most recently it's been quite the "adventure". Can hardly get help finding my way around, and when I did find someone willing to help... more he gave me the wrong info and directions!
The UW is first and foremost a teaching hospital so patients tend to be last in line. You can sometimes get top-notch care if you have an attending but if you are on a teaching service the needs of the... more residents and medical students will come first. The nurses are incredible on labor and delivery but the facility is dated compared to Swedish Medical Center. Their ER has some of the longest waits in Seattle and they do a poor job at care coordination and discharges (according to CMS Hospital compare) but are a high quality hospital overall.
Rate of readmission after discharge from hospital (hospital-wide)
Rate - 15.5% (0.5% below the national rate)
